Go Steelers!

Oh boy is the competition on in Room 7. Ian, Caleb, Kaleb, D.C., and kinda Ethan are going to be very sad little boys on Monday. The Steelers are going to make Ms. Erickson $800.00 fake dollars richer. Everyone else in class, that is strongly supporting the best team in the NFL, will also be $200.00 richer. Of course this is only my opinion...but I am the elder in the room, and it is only right to listen to your elders. Right??? All in good fun, all in good fun.

We had our class Spelling Bee today. It was pretty tense in here, but we came out with five winners and two alternates to journey forward to the school Spelling Bee on January 16th at 1:00 in the gym. Congratulations to Kaleb, Lorin, Ian, Mitch, and one girl who I can not yet name. The two alternates are Ethan and Abby. Everyone did a great job and we made it through four rounds which is my record high. If your child is mentioned above please plan to attend the bee as they will need to see a familiar face in the crowd to focus on. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Ethan's mom for being the judges today. That is not an easy task as you feel horrible when you have to hold up the red card for a misspelling.

Next week we will be finishing up our Earth/Rock unit. We will also begin to explore our European Explorers. I will begin to post a bonus explorer trivia question daily on the blog. Students are encouraged to google/research information to discover the explorer in question. Correct answers written clearly in their planner, by their parent's signature, and shown to me while checking in on the following day will be worth $20.00 fake money each. Here is a sneak peek...This one will be worth $50.00 on Monday. Who was the Viking explorer believed to be the first European to reach the New World in about 1000 A.D.? Cheating by working with other students or telling others the answers will result in a steep money fine. Everyone needs to learn on their own for each trivia question. Parent help is welcome  and encouraged though. Have Fun and Go Exploring!!

Lastly,  I am happy to announce that I have another parent volunteer to run yet another extended math group. Selected students will start next Tuesday. It will be twice a week. Fun and challenging! Can you say TRIVIA????? For math...say what, say what? Sorry, my daughter Emma has Hannah Montana sayings stuck in my head. :0)

Have a great weekend and again I'll say it one more time...Go Steelers!
