History Has Been Made!

Our Nation's first African American President...Wow! Whether you voted for him or not, histoy has been made. I find it amazing that I am alive in the period of history that this event happened. I feel a stronger connection to Women's Rights and the Civil Rights Era. In class we opened up the floor to discussion and limited opinions. We then took a private vote and our class elected...well actually it was a dead tie. This was great because it lead to an even more meaningful discussion about how important it is for every citizen to vote. We also talked about who could vote and how. Later, we took a tour of the actual voting poll and saw a real ballot. It is never too early to spark a child's interest of what lies ahead for them in the future. Today we will discuss the election results, watch some news footage, and talk about good sportsmanship when things do not turn out the way we intended or hoped. I encourage you to model this character trait for your children at home, as so many mimic you here at school. (Lots of my mom says or my dad says...yesterday in the debate discussion). It will be stressed that no matter who we voted for, Obama is our 44th president and he deserves our respect and good wishes.
