Last Friday we were lucky enough to have Mr. Beals and Dr. Leffer come and share their experience with us from when they went to Greenland. Mr. Beals is a science teacher at Senior High and Dr. Leffer is a scientist. They went to Greenland last summer to study and collect data on the effects os sunlight in snow. It was AMAZING! Who knew? Make sure to ask your kids all about it. Above is a short clip of Mr. Beals and the chunk of ice he was able to bring back with him. Listen carefully to hear the details of how old it is and how he was able to get it. And to think we were all able to actually touch history that day! Very Cool!
Today, Room 7 had a pretty rough day. It is a new problem this time, called listening. Many, may students have been missing key directions the first time they are given. Therefore, I have put them on strict restrictions, which between you and I means I am enforcing the rules that have been established in my classroom from day one. I can tell you that the kids know that I am serious now when I say they need to be absolutely sure that they can say, with complete honesty, that they have done their very best BEFORE turning in an assignment. I was so, so disappointed at the lack of effort shown on today's math test. It is not that they didn't know it, it is just they didn't show it. So, bottom line, they need to think about their actions and rediscover, the hard way unfortunately, that their choices have consequences. I am very proud of the the few that did show their work and take pride in what they have learned. I would like to ask that you have a similar discussion with your child tonight on how now matters to their future. Upon completing this discussion, have your child write a brief summary about what they have learned. If they share it tomorrow it can earn them $100.00. I appreciate your support on this manner. Hopefully restrictions will be lightened again this Friday if I see improvement.
There is a Social Studies test tomorrow. Students should have come home with their study guides and books. They will not be allowed to use either on the test. They really need to practice what they are going to write for their essay question.
Looking Forward To A Better Tomorrow! Go Team!
