Wow! What a turn out for the Trick or Eat all the way around! 17 fifth graders, 9 MCC Crew Members, and four suburbans full of food! The Billings Food Bank was so excited when we pulled up to unload! What a difference we made as a group. It is always fun and amazing for me to watch fifth graders in action. They just LOVE to help and it is so neat when they do it with nothing in return but the satisfaction of knowing they helped others. Upon finishing early, with time to kill in the gym, we decided to play some good old fashioned Ultimate Dodge Ball! Boy do I wish I had a video camera on that one! Too darn funny! Even Mr. Senitte came out of his office to see what all the excitement was about. I was laughing so hard that it was not surprising when I imediately got put out right away. All in all, I am not sure who had more fun, the adults or the kids! :0) Thanks to all the kids that volunteered their time and energy.
Today we talked about the story of Red Ribbon Week. I introduced the story of Enrique "Kiki" Camarena. Make sure to ask your kids about it. They should be coming home with a discussion question sheet for the dinner table tonight. This requires discussion, a short summary about what parents said, and a parent signature. It was great to have a real live DEA Agent in class with us today. The questions just kept on coming from all the kids. VERY interesting. This particular DEA Agent is also HUGE on Character traits so that was just an added bonus to the discussion. He was very impressed with the kids and their questions. Yay!
Tomorrow is Lei off Drugs. Students may dress in Hawaiian attire tomorrow. They also should be wearing their Red Ribbon with pride every day this week. We will be talking with Two police officers, meeting a real drug dog, and discussing MIPs with a Probation Officer in the afternoon. Another packed day of learning for us. I encourage all of you to really take this week to talk about kids about choices in the near future.
If questions should arrise about Halloween Candy we did talk about how all candy should be checked by an adult before eating it. We talked about how some drug dealers will sneak drugs into candy to get kids hooked, and that it is rare but out there. Hopefully they will follow through with this action before eating any candy given to them by strangers.
Thanks!!
