You can DEW it!!

Well day one back is over and done with. It was very quiet in room 7 this morning. Then...the kids woke up and oh boy we were back! (In a good way!)

Tomorrow we start our reading MontCas testing. I shared with the kids that this is a test to help teachers know what still needs to be taught. It is important that students do their absolute best on these tests. That way we get a true score and do not waste precious class time learning things students already know. I will continue to repeat this statement for the next two weeks: "I only expect you to do your very best, no more and no less." In order to encourage their best may I make a few suggestions...

1. In bed, ready to go to sleep, by 8:30 at the latest. Research shows kids between the ages of 10-11 need at least 10-12 hours of sleep each evening to perform at their true potential.
2. Eat a good healthy breakfast that includes some source of protein, such as eggs or peanut butter. Protein is the longest lasting substance in the human body. It will stick to their guts and get them through the test. Please avoid sugar cereals at all costs.
3. Drink water, water, water. The brain is 70% water! It needs to be replenished often. Instead of soda and/or juice select water for the next few days.
4. Avoid leaving home stressed. Set an alarm clock, pack the backpack tonight, and pick out clothes before going to bed to avoid rushed, stressed situations.
5. Have students shower in the morning. Research actually shows that feeling clean and fresh produces confidence in children.
6. Lastly, Give children extra loves and kisses on the way out of the car/door. Tell them you believe in them and only expect their best. Make sure to stress that you are so very proud of them and how much they have already learned in life. XOXOXO

Please make sure students arrive on time to school everyday, especially on test days. Once the testing session begins...students will not be allowed into the classroom and will have to wait in the office until the next session begins. Students that arrive on time to school will earn $100.oo per testing day!

Happy Monday and see you on Tuesday!
