Hard Boiled Egg/Earth????
Hi. Yesterday I asked the kids to think about what a hard boiled egg had to do with the Earth we live on. Today, we used a hard boiled egg to demonstrate that it is a perfect model of the three layers of the earth: crust, mantle, and core. We compared and contrasted each layer as we peeled it away. Tonight, the kids need to look around their house and find another model that could be used to show the three layers of the Earth. I did tell them it did not have to be round, but did have to clearly show the three layers and the correct thickness of each layer. Tomorrow, they will share their findings in class for a grade. Please have them practice their presentation with you tonight so they are ready to share tomorrow in class. This will be their grade for this objective. Next we will be diving into the crust and experimenting with rock samples. Students will be performing all sorts of tests on different samples and learning interesting facts as they go along.
