Veteran's Day!
Wow! I am going to be forever seeing the colors of red, white, blue and camo. What an awesome display of America we had in my students clothing today. It was really neat to hear the students share their stories, research, and possesions today. We learned how the holiday came to be, why it is celebrated on the 11th month, 11th day, and 11th hour! Even I didn't realize that until two students pointed it out. The helmet and soldier photograph were also intereting. I didn't realize that I had veterans right in my student's worlds. Then there was the personal stories about grandparents, uncles, and parents. So touching. We also watched two tributes to military service men and women. If you would like to see them just google veteran's day slideshows. There are a million to choose from. Finally, we were able to blog to a group of American soldiers in Iraq. They will be responding soon. We asked them many questions, and told them about the happenings in Billings. Can't wait to hear from them. Ask your students what the difference is between Memorial Day and Veteran's Day. We talked about that as well in reading class. It was a busy day here in room 7, as always. Peace to all, and thank god for all those that give it to us.
