Tomorrow is Polar Express Day. Kids can wear their PJs, robes, slippers, and bring their favorite pillow, blankie, and teddy bear. Also, don't let them forget their favorite Hot Chocolate mug. We will be working with the book in the morning and the movie in the afternoon. The general theme of the book and movie is my absolute favorite word...BELIEVE!
Today we had our Christmas store. All the students were able to shop for their families for Christmas with their hard earned fake classroom money. Many students had so much money saved they actually started donating to others. I am actually not surprised with this group of kids though. They are full of awesome character! Merry Christmas to all! Today we also played the dredal game while learning about Chaunakah. This afternoon we read the First Christmas Story and discovered why we exchange gifts at Christmas, and just how Christmas came to be. The discussion on this topic warmed my heart, and was fun to just sit back and take it all in. We never quite made it to Kwanza. Just too much going on today. Lastly, the kids got a chance to go around to classrooms and deliver the Candy Grams. When doing so they also sang Christmas Carols to the classes. FUN!! Busy day.
The Volunteer Opportunity was also a hit! The people at Eagle Cliff Manor were very impressed with Bitterroot and how the kids just loved to talk with the residents so openly. At first the kids were hesitant, but they quickly learned that just talking to someone means more than any gift they could ever buy. I hope the kids go back someday soon and visit with them again on their own. Thank You to all that participated.
As the last day approaches tomorrow, please help remind your kids that there will be many opportunities to make "choices." I know that they all have it in them to just have calm, peaceful fun. I told them that is the best gift that they can give to me. Have a wonderful evening and enjoy the snow again!! Gotta love those below zero temperatures! :0)
