Space Day!

Oh my...what fun we had being simulated astronauts today! We are in our last standard of this science unit: Space Travel. So, we read a story about a little boy who went to the moon. It was realistic fiction, meaning some parts were true, and some parts were fiction. We did learn how astronauts drink orange juice, or space juice as we called it today. Hopefully, your child brought home their space bag to show you how it is done! I highly recommend having your dinner beverage this way tonight at dinner! If you are really brave you can stand on your head and try to drink it to simulate no gravity in space like we did in class. Pretty funny! A little harder to swallow than one might think. After dinner, if you feel up for some exercise have your child teach you how to space walk/bound. Move those arms!!! We had fun doing it in the gym while trying to avoid astroids.

We have our Yellowstone Art Museum field trip tomorrow. We leave here at 9. Please make sure students wear warm clothing as we will be walking to Burger King for lunch. Also, make sure your child has money to buy their lunch with. If they do not want to buy lunch, they can pack their own to bring. It should be a perfect tie into our Native Indian studies.

Today, we also took a more in depth look into Similes and Metaphors. We then wrote some Thanksgiving poems using the two skills. Here are a few I'd like to share with you. Your child will know which one is theirs, but they were all very creative.

Turkey
Turkey is the color of chocolate cake.
It sounds like friens coming over.
It tastes like cheese pizza and smells like
a chocolate cookie. Turkey looks like a Tom and
Jerry cartoon. It makes me feel like I can't wait!

The Two Worlds Dinner
The Dinner is the color of American and Asian.
It sounds like no one know how to be quiet.
It tastes like mungbean soup with rice and
smells like traditional turkey.
The Two Worlds Dinner looks like ten people gathered to eat.
It makes me feel like screaming because they won't be quiet.

Thanksgiving Dinner With Dad's Family
Thanksgiving is the color of a warm cup of cider.
It sounds like Saturday Night.
It tastes like going back in history.
And it smells like the fish in the sink from that morning.
Dinner looks like a party.
It makes me feel like I'm home.

Stuffing
Stuffing is the color of burnt pizza.
It sounds like bacon sizzling on the sun.
It tastes like churned ice cream and
Smells like newly made apple pie.
Stuffing looks like a bowl of money.
It makes you feel awestruck and curious.

Thanksgiving Turkey
Turkey is the color of chocolate chip cookies.
It sounds like a herd of cows mooing.
It tastes like my Granmother's great food.
It smells like mashed potatoes.
Turkey looks like chicken.
It makes me fell like I just had my very first christmas.

Turkey
Turkey is the color of hair.
It sounds like Bang Bang.
It tastes like my dad's hunt.
And it smells like family memories.
Turkey looks like my dinner.
It makes me feel like watching a war movie.

I am planning to do some podcasts, that is where I record your childs voice only, this Friday. I hope to have those speeches linked to my blog by the weekend for you to listen to. There will be no names involved or published. Technology...gotta love it! By the way, I do not have spell check on my blog...so if there are errors I apologize. I am lucky to just get it written most days. :0} Have a good one!
